THE BOOKS

Navigating The Publishing Maze, Self-Publishing 101

People are excited when you tell them you're a writer -- little do they know that writing a book is the easy, fun part. Getting that book published is the hard part, especially since the rules keep changing. Doing it all by yourself the first time is a little like following an overgrown, potholed path through a jungle at night in the middle of a monsoon!

In order to make the right decision regarding the method best suited for your project, you need to have the most current information. This book is a starting point, with a wealth of information and pages of resources to help a writer make the perfect choices for their unique book.

She Survives,

Book One of the Laura's Dash Series

Laura was born in Indian Territory #6, in a sod house outside of what is now Ardmore, Oklahoma. Her mother, a full-blood Cherokee, died when Laura was only three years old. Her oldest sister, Ruth, just twelve, suddenly had to take on all of their mother's responsibilities for the children and household. Their father was a vicious, abusive man who taught his children to be ashamed of their heritage.

Laura was born with a caul, believed to forecast the gift of "second sight." They started to manifest shortly after her mother died, when she would feel her mother's presence and her humming. Unfortunately, being intuitive in the early 1900s in Oklahoma was considered proof of the devil's work.

This book is Historical Fiction, but was inspired by a real woman, my maternal grandmother. It is my way of honoring her, and all of the other ordinary women in our history who overcame incredible challenges.

Strive and Protect,

Book Two of the Laura's Dash Series

Laura was raised to hide who she was. She'd been told repeatedly to never reveal her Cherokee heritage, or the fact that she'd been attacked by her own father. And no one should ever know she had the Second sight, or they might think she was crazy or possessed.

Somehow Laura built a life on her own, married a good man who adored her, and had children, all while managing to keep her secrets. She was determined to raise her children in a home filled with love and support, rather than in an atmosphere of fear and pain like the one she'd known.

Laura's husband shared her ideals, but had demons and fears of his own from his experiences in World War I. Together they worked hard, but their best intentions were repeatedly beaten down by the realities of life during the Great Depression.

This book is a continuation of my maternal grandmother's fictionalized story. Many of the places are real, but the people and events portrayed are based on things that took place during the actual time period.

Tom Flynn, Medium & Healer

This is the story of Tom Flynn, the 7th. child born to an English carpenter and his Romany Gypsy wife. The family lived in a council house in Edmonton, just outside of London. Tom lost his father when he was just seven, and his mother when he was thirteen. Although they died when he was a child, Tom's parents have supported and guided him as spirit guides to this day. From his earliest days speaking in Spiritualist Churches in London, Tom's abilities as a medium and spiritual healer have amazed people. His messages are full of specific details, providing proof of continued life from the spirit world. Tom has become an internationally known medium and healer, but continues to live a simple life of faith. His life work is to share the truth that life transcends death, and that our loved ones in the spirit world can and do communicate with us.

Faces of Rescue; Cats, Kittens and Great Danes

They say writers do their best work when they write about what they know.  If that's true, then my knowledge and passion for animals makes this a very special book indeed.  I've been rescuing animals since the 1980s, primarily kittens that had to be bottle-fed.  "Faces of Rescue; Cats, Kittens and Great Danes"  contains stories about some of the hundreds of animals that have shared my home, as well as stories about many wonderful people who work in animal rescue.   In addition to the stories, there are 82 full-color pictures.  If you've ever loved an animal, whether it was a rescue or not, you'll love this book!

"Faces of Rescue; Cats, Kittens and Great Danes" is a perfect companion for my award-winning first book, "Bottlekatz; A Complete Care Guide for Orphan Kittens," and a good follow-up to my memoir, "From Hindsight to Insight; A Traditional to Metaphysical Memoir."  It's also an excellent educational and fundraising tool for rescue groups.  Multiple copies can be obtained directly from me (see the contact page for information) at a wholesale price, leaving a good margin for resale profit.

"Faces of Rescue; Cats, Kittens and Great Danes"  is now available on Amazon, in paperback and kindle editions, as well as through other traditional venues, including Smashwords.com.  You can choose the rectangular "BUY NOW from Amazon" button below to get your book through Amazon, in paperback or kindle format. Could it be that whenever we say, "I can't do that," or I don't have time to try that," or "I don't want to do that," we're ignoring an opportunity?  Could it be that saying yes more often in life almost guarantees more opportunities in life?  I believe that nothing in life is an accident, and wrote this book to inspire and entertain readers with true stories from my life covering an amazing range of widely divergent subjects.  My hope is that readers will be entertained and inspired by my life stories, as they are reminded of occasions in their own lives which have taught and strengthened them.

Doreen Beyer, member of Northern California’s Publishers and Authors,  wrote the following review:

"…it is turns out to be a surprisingly light and engaging series of self-revelations told in an unpretentious and honest manner, like sitting across from the author Sharon herself, as she pours you a cup of coffee while you listen in rapt attention to stories that stir up parts of a latent soul you didn’t realize lay undisturbed up until then. In raw detail, you learn of her bipolar father, her near-death experiences, of keeping a married-too-young marriage intact and other adventures seemingly excessive for one lifetime when the mood shifts and a past one unfolds.  From kitten rescue work to Ouija board messages, there is guaranteed to be a story that will strike a chord with every reader."
