Samati Press

Samati Press is a new publishing company, an imprint of SharonSDarrow.com.  Samati is a Sanskrit woman's name, meaning Harmony Within. With the name as a guide, the goal is to publish books that will leave the reader, and in turn the world, just a little bit better for having read them.  We anticipate publishing works of different genres, but they must all meet the goal of enhancing inner harmony in some way.

Several of Sharon S Darrow's books that were published prior to the forming of Samati Press will be relaunched. We hope to have that done before the end of 2020, so watch for them.

Umbach Publishing is a sub-imprint of Samati Press. Ken Umbach, the original owner, published several books before he passed away. We are keeping the name to honor Ken and his contribution to the publishing community.

More Birds of a Feather

From their size, color, and the way they see the world, animals are diverse—and so are the delightful stories in this anthology. Ranging from legends and true tales of wildland bears to a memorable veterinary house call and stories of humans who become animals (or act like them), this collection is all about animals and our relationships with them. Meet rabbits, lizards, guinea pigs, potbelly pigs, horses, seals, owls, spiders, coyotes, wolves, elephants, and of course plenty of cats and dogs who will touch your heart and remind you that no matter how many legs we have, we all have much in common.

Strive and Protect

Laura was raised to hide who she was. She'd been told repeatedly to never reveal her Cherokee heritage, or the fact that she'd been attacked by her own father. And no one should ever know she had the Second sight, or they might think she was crazy or possessed.

Somehow Laura built a life on her own, married a good man who adored her, and had children, all while managing to keep her secrets. She was determined to raise her children in a home filled with love and support, rather than in an atmosphere of fear and pain like the one she'd known.

Laura's husband shared her ideals, but had demons and fears of his own from his experiences in World War I. Together they worked hard, but their best intentions were repeatedly beaten down by the realities of life during the Great Depression.

This book is a continuation of the author's maternal grandmother's fictionalized story. Many of the places are real, but the people and events portrayed are based on things that took place during the actual time period.

She Survives

Laura was born in Indian Territory #6, in a sod house outside of what is now Ardmore, Oklahoma. Her mother, a full-blood Cherokee, died when Laura was only three years old. Her oldest sister, Ruth, just twelve, suddenly had to take on all of their mother's responsibilities for the children and household. Their father was a vicious, abusive man who taught his children to be ashamed of their heritage.

Laura was born with a caul, believed to forecast the gift of "second sight." Laura's intuitive abilities started to manifest shortly after her mother died when she would feel her mother's presence and hear her humming. Unfortunately, being intuitive in the early 1900s in Oklahoma was considered proof of the devil's work.

This book is Historical Fiction but was inspired by a real woman, the author's maternal grandmother. It's her way of honoring this incredible woman, and all of the other ordinary women throughout history who overcame incredible challenges.

Tom Flynn, Medium & Healer

This is the story of Tom Flynn, the 7th. child born to an English carpenter and his Romany Gypsy wife. The family lived in a council house in Edmonton, just outside of London. Tom lost his father when he was just seven, and his mother when he was thirteen. Although they died when he was a child, Tom's parents have supported and guided him as spirit guides to this day. From his earliest days speaking in Spiritualist Churches in London, Tom's abilities as a medium and spiritual healer have amazed people. His messages are full of specific details, providing proof of continued life from the spirit world. Tom has become an internationally known medium and healer, but continues to live a simple life of faith. His life work is to share the truth that life transcends death, and that our loved ones in the spirit world can and do communicate with us.

Future Titles

Desperate Choices,

Book Three of the Laura's Dash series

It's finished! The manuscript is out to the Beta readers and editor for a final review.

Desperate Choices is Book three of the Laura's Dash Series. The first book covered Laura's hardscrabble upbringing and her escape from a vicious, abusive father. In the second book, we followed her life as an adult, wife, and mother coping with the Great Depression. Desperate Choices brings new challenges when Laura's husband has a mental breakdown and is committed to an insane asylum. Laura has to survive with no support from her husband, no help from a community that stigmatizes people with a mental disorder, and a world caught up in fears of a new world war. Somehow she must nurture and protect her children, while holding on to hope for their future.

Devil Triplets,

Angel Kitties

This top picture is Becca, the smallest of the triplets, when they arrived at the ripe old age of 11 days. My husband and I took them in on a temporary basis, just until we could place them in another foster home. Worst case scenario, we'd keep them until they could be adopted out.

As they grew, we were stunned to see how incredibly bonded to one another these three were. Brady, Bonnie, and Becca were always together, cuddling or playing. Never in raising more than 500 kittens had we seen siblings so close. So.....we couldn't separate them.

This book will be contain many full color pictures of the triplets -- who we alternate between calling devils or angels -- interacting with our other animals and getting into mischief. But every single time they get caught doing something awful, they look at us with huge, beautiful yellow eyes. What can you do?

The story will be told by Becca, from the kittens' point of view. We are planning on a publication date sometime late in 2018.
